The Wertz family has been making candy in much the same way since the company was founded in 1931. Their candies are handmade, at the original location in Lebanon, PA., using fresh ingredients according to time-tested formulations which have been handed down through generations. The wide selection of chocolates are generally available in a choice of milk or semi-sweet chocolate, including the popular nonpareils which are available throughout the year in seasonal colors. In addition to the selection of chocolates they also make caramel, fudge, and caramel corn. The famous, old fashioned, caramel corn is handmade in small batches from the same recipe used in the 1930's by Bill. Wertz himself. Wertz candies is still family owned and run by grandsons William, Richard ,Charles and long time employee, Willow. One more reason to visit, Wertz Candies is one of just a few places in the world that makes Opera Fudge. The difference between opera fudge and a buttercream is that opera fudge has no butter in it. Instead they use heavy cream from a local dairy.
